Castro Valley — The East Bay Regional Park District has approved an option to buy 955 acres in Castro Valley to expand Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park.

The purchase price for the ridge land along Palomares Road is about $3.97 million, or about $4,150 per acre, according to a park district report.

The option to buy the land in two phases from Knoel and Christina Owen was approved Tuesday by the park board.
