The San Andreas Recreation and Parks District hopes to clear the overgrown brush along San Andreas Creek. Enterprise photo by Krissi KhokhobashviliThe San Andreas Recreation and Parks District may be able to clear San Andreas Creek – it just has to clear a few hurdles first. First of all, the funding: Clearing the creek will likely require an ecological study and possibly a permit from Fish and Game, said project planner Cliff Edson. He and Jim Kavanagh have formed “the committee,” as they refer to themselves, working toward clearing the overgrown creek with the ultimate goal of constructing a walking path along it. They plan to apply for a grant from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy to perform the study. That is, if they can clear a second hurdle: public approval. The pair is talking with property owners along the creek, asking for legal rights to use about 20 feet of their property from the edge of the creek, or an easement, to build a walking trail with historical markers and maintenance from the parks district.
Can’t wait to see the results.
